Saving the 25% of produce that goes to waste daily to help feed the 24% of Detroit kids who go to bed hungry nightly…
In 2001, The Variety Produce Rescue Mission was established through the efforts of Matt Prentice of Matt Prentice Restaurant Group and Rob Allen, a past Variety President.
Each day, before most of us even wake up, hundreds of pounds of almost perfect fruits and vegetables are rescued and distributed across southeastern Michigan via relief agencies, soup kitchens, shelters and outreach centers. This program has been a huge success in providing nutritious, healthy food for children who might otherwise go to bed hungry.
