Variety Kids in Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.) is a Variety core program committed to bringing new products and essentials to children in need in Southeastern Michigan.
With a strong and dedicated partnership with non-profit partner Delivering Good, Variety facilitates donations of new apparel, bedding, shoes, toys, juvenile products and other essential items that benefit thousands of children who are ill, disadvantaged or living in poverty, or are the victims of natural disasters.
Throughout the year, Variety accepts in-kind donations of new merchandise from major retailers and manufacturers via Delivering Good to support children in need. This high-quality merchandise, which includes brand name clothing, bedding, shoes, books, toys and juvenile products, is valued at more than $1 million annually, with Variety funding the cost of the transportation of the merchandise each year.
The products are routinely distributed, using a small army of Variety and agency volunteers, throughout the year to a network of approximately 30 pre-selected and qualifying social services agencies and grassroots not-for-profits who service children, youth and families in need across Southeastern Michigan. These agencies, in turn, deliver the goods directly into the hands of those who need it most through community giving events, holiday parties, and other efforts to support the specific and immediate needs of children in the Detroit area.
